My cousin Deidre and her boyfriend Matt adopted this adorable Catahoula Bulldog on March 4th and they named her Sadie. At only 2 ½ months old, she stole their hearts immediately! She has brought such joy to their lives and Deidre is so happy with her little family. This past Friday night, Deidre noticed that she couldn't jump up on the bed, which she NEVER has a problem doing. Then Saturday night when they got home from a wedding, Sadie started throwing up…anytime she ate or drank, she would throw up. Same thing happened Sunday morning, so Matt decided to take her for a walk and she would literally take 4 steps and collapse. When they took her over to the vet, she couldn't even walk up the curb…Matt had to carry her in. After numerous tests and x-rays, it was determined that Sadie has Myasthenia Gravis. It's a muscle/nerve disorder which also affects her esophagus so she can't eat/drink without throwing up. She needs to be in an upright position to eat and then stay upright 20 mins after so she doesn't aspirate. Deidre and Matt are committed to their little girl, Sadie, and are going to do whatever it takes to keep her healthy and live as normal of a life as possible. As any pet owner can understand, they have incurred medical bills for all the tests and doctor visits and the continuing cost of her medication that she will need for the rest of her life is going to be expensive. The past 24 hours, the bills have accumulated to $1,500. They have to get blood work the next two weeks and possibly x-rays…she’s figuring another $600 for those tests and the cost for the medications is $400 each time! In addition, they need to purchase and/or have a special chair made to accommodate Sadie for when she eats. There is something called a “Baily’s Chair” that she found on www.youtube.com that will be perfect for Sadie. So we are also asking for help from anyone who has a chair like this or knows someone who does. She needs one as soon as possible. Deidre always loved dogs and was so excited when she was able to adopt one. Let’s help raise some funds so that we can reduce the financial burden on Deidre and Matt. Any donation is appreciated!! Thank you for sharing!
