Hello, I'm Callie! By day I'm a Pricing Manager at The North Face, and by night, I'm an MBA candidate at the University of Denver. I'm a dog mom of a tri-pawed pittie-shepard-lab mix, an avid skier, music lover, world traveler, and aspiring long-distance runner. It's been TEN years since my last marathon in Portland, Oregon, so I'm overdue... 2024 Tokyo Marathon here I come! About the Tokyo Marathon: Tokyo is one of the six World Marathon Majors (alongside Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York). It attracts 38,000+ runners from around the world who wind their way 26.2 miles across Tokyo. About the Charity: I applied to support Peace Wanko Japan. Peace Wanko was founded in 2012 in Hiroshima, Japan. The organization rescues dogs from kill facilities and provides them shelter with medical care and training before finding them forever homes. Many dogs go on to train as emergency responders. Peace Wanko partners with the Disaster Emergency Support Project "Arrows" and provides skilled dogs to assist in humanitarian crises like earthquakes, flooding, and other natural disasters. Their work was inspired by one dog, Yumenojo, who became a rescue dog after being saved from a kill shelter. The organization is operated by Peace Winds Japan, a certified and internationally recognized non-profit organization. I'm honored to be chosen as one of the 300 runners for Peace Wanko Japan. Following my race, I plan to visit Hiroshima to visit the shelter and pay my respects at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, the site of the only structure to survive the first atomic bomb during World War II. All dollars raised through this campaign go directly to Peace Wanko Japan and its mission. Donations cover meals, medical expenses, expansion of shelters, the establishment of new transfer centers, training of disaster relief dogs, and educational activities. I've committed ¥400,000, or $2,900. These funds plus additional funds raised past this initial commitment will be donated directly to Peace Wanko.
