Hey y'all! Lee here, Romeo's dad. Some of you may know Romeo, the pup I found at the end of March 2024, on the way to my performance of "Romeo and Juliet." Not only did the name fit due to the circumstance in which I found him, but he's such a lover that he effectively lives up to what the archetype of 'Romeo' truly means. After an ongoing search for his owner, I eventually gave up. I sensed that maybe he had been dumped, sadly, with no idea why. He's such a sweet soul and to have found him in the middle of the street, dodging traffic and looking confused, I had no choice but to scoop him up! I connected with him instantly in that moment and eventually, we decided to make him a part of our pack, with our 2 other dogs, Samson and Miles-- whom he also immediately got along with. It all made sense that although unplanned, our family was expanding. When I found Romeo, he had a pretty serious, protruded cherry eye. It's not contagious but common in some small breeds where the eyelid and tear duct get irritated and redness/inflammation occurs. I took him to the vet immediately that week and they prescribed a steroid ointment which we have been applying every morning and every night for months now. Although it has been somewhat effective, this can be an ongoing cost that is only a temporary solution, so we knew eventually we would have to schedule a surgery where they make an incision and tuck it to reduce its exposure. Below is a picture of what it looks like, and like an iceberg, it can be much worse than what is visible. Unfortunately, the estimated cost of the procedure is 2000.00. I have already made a deposit towards the surgery and paid for bloodwork that is required prior to the procedure. As many of you may know, my wife and I work in the film industry and are deeply affected by the strike, not to mention a series of recent expenses we had to cover with our other dog, Miles, as he has been having seizures that required multiple neuro and cardio tests. I hate asking for money when it comes to something I have taken responsibility for, but sometimes I have to swallow my pride and know when to ask for help, as this is an inconvenient time for multiple vet bills with little to no work to pay for them. We understand it is a tough time right now financially for a lot of friends we have in this industry, but even just sharing Romeo's cause would mean so much to us! We love this little guy and would do ANYTHING when it comes to all three of our dogs, especially their health and safety. By raising most of the money for his surgery, it would ensure Romeo's health and happiness, as well as alleviate some financial disadvantages we are currently enduring. Thank you so much, Lee
