Horse Garden Churan (an Okinawan horse rescue farm) was severally damaged by the Khanun Typhoon. Miraculously, the horses were emergency evacuated just in time and were not injured but after the typhoon passes they will have no home to return to. The farm needs funding to rebuild the stables and pasture. Please help if you can! Follow our updates below: ————————— 01SEP UPDATE FROM THE OWNER: “Due to extensive typhoon damages all over the island, the contractors have been so backed up in work. Today, Horse Garden Churan got the information we have patiently been waiting for. Unfortunately, replacing the roof of the stall structure entirely will be far too expensive. Instead, we will take the advice from a reliable contractor and reinforce the whole stable. The wooden poles will be replaced with metal ones and increased in number. The entire structure will need to be reinforced into the ground with concrete. Everything will need to be welded and wired so the roof doesn't blow away again. The estimate we received to make this happen is $15,000.00. Thanks to all of your generous donations, we are so close to our goal. With the support of our amazing community, we will finally be able to rebuild Horse Garden Churan safe and sturdy for the rescue animals. Please consider donating and sharing our information. Every donation, big or small, is one step closer to getting these rescues the home they deserve.” ————————————————— 31AUG Churan Horse Farm Typhoon Recovery Update Everyone’s support has been invaluable, and we are so grateful for your kindness. While we have secured resources for temporary repairs, we still need additional funds for the permanent roof and cabin repairs! Please share our story to raise awareness and support and donate if you can☺️ thank you! ——————————————— Update 09AUG from the owner of the farm: Horse Garden Churan staff and volunteers have been working day-in and day-out to restore the farm. Now that the storm has passed, we've been able to clean up enough to welcome some very special visitors to the rescue farm. Today, some of our friends came to show their support and check on the rescue animals. They helped to cheer up the horses with lots of love and carrot treats. They even got to take Prince, a pony, out for some rides and exercise. We are truly grateful to be part of such a compassionate community. Thank you so much for all of the continued support and encouragement. We are getting so close to the fundraising goal thanks to everyone who has donated. We sincerely thank everyone for helping us to give the rescues the safe, sturdy home they deserve. If you haven't yet, please consider making a donation. Every bit helps. Please share our links and fundraiser to help us reach as many people as we can. Together, we can rebuild better than ever! ————————————————— Update 07AUG from the owner of the farm: Typhoon Khanun has finally slowed down and is moving on. Thankfully, all of our rescue animals are okay! They are all safe and as comfortable as we can make them for now. Even though Typhoon Khanun is on its way out, typhoon season is far from over. We are desperately trying to rebuild and reinforce all of the animal's shelters to keep our rescues safe and comfortable through all future storms. With donations from our amazing community, we will be able to make this a reality for our resilient animals. Every donation, no matter the size, helps Horse Garden Churan to feed, shelter, and medically take care of these rescue animals. Please consider donating and sharing our links and fundraiser. Thank you so much for all of the continued support and encouragement. The rescues need us now more than ever. We sincerely thank everyone for helping us to give them the love and safety they deserve. -------------------------------------- Update 05AUG from the owner of the farm: "The Khanun Typhoon is continuing to pour down nonstop heavy rain. We are expecting several more days of severe weather. As most of our stalls and shelters have been destroyed by this devastating storm, 8 of our rescue horses have no choice but to stand in the downpour. The stalls that remain standing have sustained damage as well and can no longer keep the rain out. Horse Garden Churan and its amazing team of volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and comfort of the animals to the best of our abilities. We've done everything we can to create a secure environment while we weather the storm, but we need your support to provide additional assistance. Your contributions will help reinforce shelters, repair any damage, and provide essential supplies like food, clean water, and medical care. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a significant impact on the well-being of these incredible animals. Together, with the help of our caring community, we can offer the rescues the care and support they deserve. We would greatly appreciate it if you could find the time to share our story, links, and our fundraiser so we can reach as many kind-hearted individuals as possible. Thank you for your kindness, thoughts, words of encouragement, and generosity. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress as we navigate through this typhoon." ---------------------------------------------- Update 04AUG from the owner of the farm: "Even though the first wave of the typhoon has passed through, rain has never stopped. Our vulnerable horses (such as our older horse Gonful (29yrs), our newest addition Apollo (3 wks) and our thoroughbreds) have been prioritized to be housed by the little remaining shelter. Our stronger horses with no shelter have been forced to stand in the rain. As the second wave of the typhoon begins we are doing our best to find a way to keep the horses as comfortable and safe as possible. The team is braving heavy rain and winds to get a makeshift roof over salvageable stalls currently. We can only pray that the storm will cause no more harm." ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE 02AUG from the owner of the farm: "I have to tell you this story about Oneman (one of the farm's thoroughbreds), how brave he was today and I’d like to share it on the LFEBridge page because I need people to realize how loving these rescues are even in a life and death situation. When we were trying to get him out of the collapsed stall, he was shaking from fear and could hardly walk. Finally, when we cleared the path he refused to leave Gonful (our oldest horse) and Sparkle (a fellow thoroughbred ex-race horse) behind. We immediately knew what he was trying to tell us so we moved Gonful first. One Man really hesitated to move before Sparkle did but we dragged him out to a safe stall. One Man is so loyal to his friends. It was heartbreaking. I’m so glad nobody died in this tragedy" See the owner and One Man pictures below: ----------------------------------- My name is Emilie Hong. I am an active duty military member stationed in Okinawa, Japan and I volunteer at Churan Horse Garden in Uruma, Okinawa, Japan. This farm rescued and cares for 12 horses, 3 goats and several other smaller animals including dogs, cats, birds and bunnies. We recently had a birth on the farm and the foal (a baby horse) is less than a month old. The stables are the greatest concern as we are unable to fulfill our mission of rescuing and caring for horses and other animals without them. This farm means a lot to me and the animals deserve the best care possible.
