Hi there! My name is Kirsten and I have had the absolute privilege of being Mandy's friend for over 10 years. From the time I met her, she talked about her childhood dream of having a Husky. A few years later, that dream came true when Denali entered her world! Here's where you come in! Recently, Denali has been sick. Since March, she has had diarrhea that has gone unimproved unless she is on prednisone. She hasn't been eating well because of this and Mandy has consulted with the vet multiple times regarding nutrition and food recommendations. Despite trying different foods (read: expensive, prescription foods), Denali has lost 10 lbs. Yesterday (July 12, 2024), Denali started to decline pretty quickly, went to Upstate Vet for an emergency visit, and was admitted to internal medicine. During her ultrasound today, a mass in her intestines was found and her intestines were found to be telescoping on themselves. The veterinarian recommended surgery to remove the mass and the telescoped intestines. The surgery is going to be either today or tomorrow, but the cost is great. As it currently stands, the estimate for Denali's overnight stays, diagnostics, and surgery is $6-8,000. I won't know the final cost until the mass is removed, of course, but that is what is currently being communicated to us. What I know of Mandy is this: not only does she love her dog, but she lives her life demonstrating her love for all animals. In true Mandy fashion, Denali has consistently been a blood donor at Upstate Vet where she has helped countless dogs during their time of need! When a stray kitten was found in our parking lot at work, without hesitation, Mandy got the kitten and took it home, fostered it, and worked alongside her sister to find the kitten a home. When I found another stray kitten at work, Mandy went to the store and got food for it so we can gain its trust in hopes that we can catch it and find it a home. When a puppy was found after being dumped in the parking lot of Walmart, Mandy brought him home and named him Gus. And, perhaps what meant the most to me personally, I called Mandy crying one time because my cat randomly started pooping blood. She had something that could help her so Mandy drove across town, in her pajamas, in the middle of the night to make sure my cat was okay. Mandy asked me not to make a LFEBridge for her, but here's the thing: it is what she would do for me and for anyone else who needed it. She won't ask for help. She never does, but she needs help right now. My hope is that, just as she has poured out for others time and time again, others will pour into her during her time of need so Denali can have the surgery that she desperately needs. Thank you so much for anything you can do to help Mandy and Denali during this time! I can't think of anyone more deserving and I know she will be so appreciative!
