Hello everyone! My name is Fabiola and I’m a small rescuer in Sunset Park Brooklyn.I started TNR in my backyard during the pandemic and over 30 plus cats later I need your help!!A neighbor up the block asked If I could help with one of his backyard cats that I had spayed a few years ago who wasn’t eating very well. When I said I would help if he pitched in ,he didn’t respond but I knew I needed to jump in quickly if she wasn’t eating.I told him to stop feeding her so she’d come into my yard so I could monitor how much she was/ wasn’t eating, and as I suspected , she had dental issues. She also had several other problems from being an outdoor cat ( like diarrhea, dehydration…)so I made sure she was up to date on vaccines, parasite treatments etc and scheduled for her to have a full dental at Faithful Friends.I got her stool issues under control but a week after her dental surgery Bertie ( as I affectionately called her because I suspected she was my rescue cat Ernie’s mom)developed an upper respiratory infection and within a day I had to rush her to Verg where they notified me her condition was dire. Her lungs were full of fluid and every major organ was surrounded with fluid. They tested the fluid and determined that she most likely had FIP which is deadly. With the help of their wonderful ER Vet , I had to sadly put Bertie down. After over a month of fighting to get healthy ,her 5 lb little body was finally at rest.I’m still processing and completely gutted.I struggled with fundraising for this and wasn’t going to but while trying to save Bertie my sweet husband Mark found out he has his own health challenge to overcome. He’s been diagnosed with Prostate cancer so we’d love to recoup some if not all of the money we spent on Bertie so we have funds when he has to take time off work due to treatment which most likely will be removal of his prostate .Recovery time is approx 6-8 weeks if his cancer is contained and more time if it isn’t.He doesn’t get sick pay(he’s a waiter) and I’m a school crossing guard so anything you can contribute will help with continued cat care ( I manage my own colony of 6 cats Milo,Miles,Grandpaw,Grayly,Paloma, and Shakira, plus 2 indoor cats- Ernie and Lola)and help with bills while he’s not working. No amount is too small and any donation is greatly appreciated.Thank you!Below are some of Bertie’s Vet bills from Flatbush Vet Clinic,Faithful Friends,Park Slope Vet Center and Verg all in Brooklyn NY.Not included are costs for additional meds, food, litter, uber to vets etc.Ty!
