My name is Chloe Gentile-Montgomery and I am heading into my second year of teaching Ethnic Studies and US History as well as advising the Black Student Union at Menlo-Atherton High School. Some of my core educational values are that learning should be fun, creative, and filled with curiosity and the classroom should be a place where students feel comfortable, both physically and emotionally, to be themselves. To hold true to these goals, I equip my classroom with students’ basic needs - snacks, water, menstrual products/sanitary items, hygiene items, fidget toys, chairs that fit their bodies, etc - and I often do so out of my hard-earned teacher salary. I also go out of my way to provide project-based learning opportunities that often require the purchase of art supplies outside of my department's budget capabilities for such items - air-dry clay, chalk, binders for year-end portfolios, etc. In my first year, students shared with me that these items help them to feel welcomed and supported in our space and I went out of my way to make sure that I continued to have throughout the year, at the bare minimum, snacks for any student that came to me hungry - a frequent occurrence at a school that primarily serves low-income students and students of color. The funds from this LFEBridge would support the purchase of such items. Any additional or extra funds that are donated will be used to continue to purchase snacks throughout the school year and/or be put towards educational field trips for my students to experience. All money donated will be used to support my students. Thank you for your support of my students! You can also support me directly by purchasing items from my Amazon Wishlist (https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3VI32L2LUW7A3?ref_=wl_share )
