Hello friends! My name is Emma and I am raising money to help my dad pay for a racing wheelchair. As many of you know, my dad was paralyzed in a bicycle accident in 2007. He was a highly competitive guy and was very active in the cycling community. His accident left him a C6-7 quadriplegic and completely changed his life. He went from being competitive and a multi-sport athlete, to depending on others to help him get from his wheelchair to a bed. He has had an amazing recovery and has managed to make an amazing life, despite his disabilities. I have often encouraged him to become involved with various wheelchair sporting activities, including wheelchair rugby, basketball or tennis. He was never interested because he felt like he had an advantage because he is so high functioning for being classified as a quadriplegic. I recently have started doing triathlons and I like to think I inspired my dad. He has decided that he wants to make a return to competing athletics as a paratriathlete. He has all the equipment for the swim and the bike, but he would need to purchase a racing wheelchair for the “run” portion of the race. It would be the most AMAZING thing in the world if I could compete in a triathlon with my dad by my side. He is my best friend and all I want is for him to be able to return to competitive athletics. We would absolutely love any donations possible to help us purchase this race wheelchair to make my dads (and my) dreams come true!!
