Hi, my name is Maura A. I am asking for family, friends, and animal lovers to please consider helping me secure much needed veterinary treatment for my service animal, Annie Quinn. Annie is twoyears & 11 months old and is a Labrador/Golden Retriever mix breed. In March of 2024, I was praying to find a service animal to help me with my severe depression and anxiety. Well, God heard my prayers and a dear friend called to tell me she had a rescue dog that was unable to be placed within her non-profit organization for veterans & first responders because she was too shy to potentially assist with men/women suffering from PTSD. She saw much potential in this young dog and felt she'd make a wonderful service anfir me. And, she would help me with her training. I was elated!! I went to meet this little girl and fell in love❤️Annie needed me as much as I needed her. She was brought up to Illinois from Texas, where she was a young, stray momma with many puppies. All of her puppies were adopted, leaving Annie alone, afraid, and in need of a lot of LOVE. I was ready and willing to provide this Beauty with all the love she needed along with a safe and trusting home. Being recently separated after many years and struggling with depression & anxiety, Annie was a true blessing. She began her training to become a certified service animal right a way. Unfortunately, after having major surgery in July, a slow recovery caused by an unexpected complication, and many schedule conflicts, Annie and I had to discontinue our training. Thanks to dear friends, we returned to training this past March. She is doing very well and catches on quickly. Moving forward to last Friday, July 21st, my world crashed around me. Annie was diagnosed with heartworm disease. The vet performed extensive bloodwork and found that larvae are present. This is a horrible discovery and without proper treatment can be life threatening. Annie's vet provided me with an estimate of the treatment's cost. The treatment can be anywhere from 6 months to one year, depending on how well Annie tolerates it and the extent that the larvae have already invaded her system. The estimate is OVERWHELMING. On the low end, treatment could cost $1750 and on the high end it could cost as much as $2000. I am unable to afford Annie's treatment on my own. Hence why I am requesting financial assistance. Any amount donated is greatly appreciated. It has taken me the past week to decide to ask for help. Asking for help does not come easily for me and asking for financial help is most difficult and embarrassing. However, after much deliberation and counsel from family & friends, I made the decision to set up this GoFund Me page. Losing Annie is NOT an option. But, if I'm unable to afford her treatment it may become the ONLY option. Obviously, there is no obligation to donate, Annie Quinn and I would be forever grateful if you did. Please help Annie get better! Thank you very much for your consideration. Keep Annie in your prayers. xoxo
