My grandmother took me in when I was seven years old and raised me after my parents broke up. She was kind, patient, loving, and never asked for anything. Life was very unfair to her in many ways. She had her first child very young, lost her home, and spent her final years grappling with illness. When she finally reconnected with a childhood sweetheart in her old age, their marriage lasted only a year before he was taken from her by a sudden heart attack. In the end, all she wanted was to be buried by his side with a shared headstone, but death has been no fairer to her than life. Because of financial difficulties, the headstone that she had placed at the time of her husband's passing was not fully paid for by the time she passed away herself. Shortly after she died, the headstone was repossessed--taken from her grave by callous hands that saw money as more important than dignity. Worse, the company went out of business shortly after that due to its owners' retirement, so the original headstone is unrecoverable. As her eldest grandchild and someone who feels a deep obligation, the responsibility for a new headstone falls to me. I simply want to honor her passing with a simple and tasteful stone. At present, my grandmother's grave is marked only by a flower hanging hook and a freestanding plaque. She deserves better. I have already priced a shared headstone from a reliable company, and the target of this LFEBridge is for that amount, including placement and delivery fees. Any money in excess of the target will go toward a larger and more decorative stone. Thank you for your consideration.
