Hello! My name is Emma and as some of you may know, my cat Navi had been missing since March 27th. She was found by some wonderful people on July 27th hiding in some bushes in their yard. I took her to an animal hospital where they found she was severely dehydrated, had multiple injuries and infections, and lost a significant amount of weight. They kept her at the hospital overnight to give her fluids, tend to her wounds, remove the maggots and fleas found on her, and continue to monitor her. Part of her tail will need to be amputated when she is more stable. She also lost her top two canine teeth and part of her ear. The care she has needed so far and will continue to need has been pretty expensive so I am reaching out to anyone that may want to help Navi get better! I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am that she was found alive and has a fighting chance at surviving all that she has been through. Thank you to everyone who hoped for her to come home and continue to support us through this crazy experience. Update 12/26/23 I thought her being missing then being found four months later was crazy, but I had no idea how crazy it would continue to be. After almost weekly vet visits for 3 months, Navi was making some progress on getting better, but more problems kept arising. Turns out, she had feline corona virus which mutated into Feline Infectious Peritonitis. I had never heard of FIP before, but the information I read made me feel defeated, sad, angry, and it just felt so unfair that she survived everything she did while being missing for her to be diagnosed with a fatal disease that didn’t have a cure or treatment. FIP was first brought to my attention during one of her appointments when I mentioned her stomach seemed to be the only thing filling out and gaining weight. Well, turns out it was fluid in her abdomen. She also had a fever and a small appetite. Bloodwork showed severe non-regenerative anemia and a high WBC count. At the end of October, my vet didn’t think she was going to make it to Thanksgiving because of how much the disease was progressing. I did some researching and found there is a treatment for this horrible disease! It is not available to the public yet, but thousands of cats have been cured so I decided to give it a try. This treatment involves at least 84 days of daily shots of the medication and 84 days of observation. She has gone through about 7 weeks of treatment so far, and the progress has been incredible. Her appetite and energy levels have increased significantly. You wouldn’t even think it was the same cat as two months ago. Her anemia is also getting better and she has no neurological symptoms anymore. She just seems overall healthier and happier. Navi is on the higher end of the dosage scale because she has a combination of wet and neurological FIP. We have used 22 vials already. She will probably need 20 more vials to complete treatment, if not more, because of her gaining weight. (Which is a good thing, but just requires more medication!) I am so incredibly grateful to the people who have helped and supported me through this and the people who have taught me so much about this lifesaving medication. I appreciate any help towards Navi getting better! What a crazy and chaotic year it has been, but I am so grateful Navi is feeling better than she has in months.
