Hello everyone! My name is Brian and this lovely lady is Naga. She is a Pyrenees mix I took in at the beginning of the month. She's estimated to be 3 or 4 years old and has shown signs of neglect and abuse from her past. She is skittish, is quite underweight, many of her teeth are worn down, and she seemed to get tired very easily. Despite the challenges she's faced she's still a sweetheart who loves pets and has a great personality! During Naga's post-adoption visit, I discovered that she had not been screened for heartworm infection and since this screen is needed for the preventative medicine I opted for the screening. Heartworm is much easier and cheaper to prevent than to treat so I wanted to have her started on preventive medicine that day, 1 week after her adoption. Unfortunately, the results of the screening showed that she had already been infected for some time. Her weight and exercise intolerance had then become potential symptoms of her heartworm infection. Additional tests confirmed Naga's diagnosis and discussion around options began. Her vet has given an initial estimate of $3400 CAD for her treatment protocol. Unfortunately, this is not an amount I can spend right now between my rent + utilities and my monthly bills and living expenses. Right now I am all Naga has and heartworm is serious and progressive. The earlier treatment begins the less chance there is of fatal complications as treatment progresses. I believe that Naga deserves a chance to have a happy and healthy life and it breaks my heart knowing she is sick. I am doing what I can to come up with this money myself but even after reworking my budget, and using my savings we still need help. Anything gets her a step closer to being treated and healthy. For more information about heartworm infection, prevention, pathology, and treatment the American Heartworm Society has several resources available Direct Donation Donations that are not received through LFEBridge ("Offline Donations") can be manually added to the donation total so I will be doing this to remain as transparent as possible to ensure progress towards our goal is accurately represented. Please contact me to discuss direct donations via other services (eg. e-transfer, PayPal, etc) While it is possible to contact the veterinarian's office for a direct donation to them, this requires more of my personal information. I would ask that you contact me so I can provide the details directly rather than post them on a public webpage. This donation would credit my account with the veterinarian's office and is not directly refundable to the donor. To request a refund contact me and I will have to receive the refund first and then give it to you.
