Growing up as a kid from Compton, I have always had dreams of doing something important with my life. I don't think that this dream is very uncommon, and furthermore, I think that for many people, this is indeed their aspiration. I, however, am currently in a position to turn my dream into a reality. And the first step for me, is to get my college degree. I am now in my 5th and final year of my undergraduate studies as I pursue my degree, which will hopefully allow me to become the future educator that I envision myself being. I have struggled financially throughout the semester thus far (I currently have a work-study position and work at a day-school everyday after classes), and have fallen behind on my tuition payments, which if not paid in full, will disallow me from registering for my spring semester of classes (which would also be my last undergraduate semester). This is where I am seeking help from all of you: friends and family. I do not envision grandiose sums of money to be contributed individually, but I do believe in the power of many people combining efforts. If I could get just 300 people to donate 5 dollars, that would make up 1500 dollars, which is just 200 shy of my fundraising goal. This is not to say that greater donation amounts would not be appreciated, but it is simply to shed light on the power of many people making small donations to help the cause: my college education. For me, my degree is far more than just a piece of paper. It's more that just validation, and it is more than just a ticket to a better life. For me, my college degree means hope. Hope for any future generations with whom I get to share my story and hopefully inspire the lives of the kids from Compton (and inner cities all over) to achieve their dreams. And so, this is very important to me. Any help that any of you can offer will be greatly appreciated and I can promise that it will not be in vain. I still believe that I have mountains to move, and with your help, we can be sure that they will get out of the way. Thanks in advance.Update: I reached my goal thanks to all of you and your love and support. And for that, I am so very grateful. As a result of how quickly I reached my initial goal, I have decided to continue the fundraising efforts to help offset the costs of my second semester as well. Again, thank you all so much for everything and I promise that I will make you all proud and that I will take my story with me as I continue to reach for my dreams, hopefully inspiring ambition in others. - Erie French
