Dara unexpectedly lost her life on Friday June 30th 2024. The family is looking for help for cremation and memorial expenses to provide a service for friends and family members in memory of Dara. In addition, the family is seeking assistance with expenses pertaining to means of care for her daughter and pets. Dara loved her family; Daughter Genevieve, Son Kyle, and Mother Geraldine. Dara was a sexual assault survivor, recovering addict, and endured many health struggles, but she was also a lover of animals, an advocate and ally for the blind and visually impaired, and loved dearly by so many friends and family. She would rescue and nurse stray or injured animals until they were put in a safe place, or well enough to go on their way. She would assist the disabled with anything she could, never expecting reward or compensation in return. Dara simply loved to help others in need. It was her determination to care for her elderly mother, and her blind daughter, that helped her find the strength to overcome her addiction. Dara’s most proud moments were watching her son earn his black belt in taekwondo, and meeting her daughter’s first service dog. Her favorite things in the world were 80s rock music, scary movies, and an extra cheesy pizza. What Dara wanted most in life was to see her children find love and build homes for themselves. Dara was the primary caretaker of her blind daughter and elderly mother. In addition to her daughter’s blindness, her mother began suffering major hearing loss in recent years. Dara would handle phone calls for her mother, and transportation for her daughter. She kept their home clean, cooked meals for her family, and attended an addiction recovery program to keep her on the right track. The family will need to seek out alternate means of transportation and care moving forward. Genevieve has been working a full time job nine miles from home, and is unable to rely on the city buss to get there due to the crime and violence plaguing her neighborhood. She is currently applying for transportation assistance, but it will take time. As of now, ride share services are the only option, and Gen will not be able to afford this in addition to the mounting cremation and funeral expenses for Dara. Dara served as Genevieve’s payee, driver, and house keeping assistant. Gen is committed to becoming fully independent in her mother’s absence, but needs as much help as she can to get started. Dara had a small life insurance policy that she just opened recently, but it is simply not enough to cover the farewell event she deserves. Dara has touched so many hearts and lives, and deserves the best goodbye that her family can give her.
