On June 11, 2024 Wayne and Jackie Dunkel, together with two relatives, were in fatal car accident outside of Fort Worth, Texas. Jackie and another passenger died immediately. Wayne was transported to a trauma unit in Fort Worth where he underwent surgery for his broken femur. He suffered multiple other fractures and internal bleeding. After three weeks in the trauma ICU he passed away peacefully. The family will hold a memorial for Wayne and Jackie on July 22, in Lubbock Texas, where they lived. They request that anyone who would like to show their sympathies would contribute toward the cost of the funeral rather than sending flowers. These funds may also be used for legal, or other related expenses after memorial and funeral expenses have been paid. This fundraiser has been set up by Wayne and Jackie Dunkel's children: Bill Carroll, John Dunkel, and Wayne and Leanna Dunkel (Wayne's spouse).
