Hi, my name is Hannah and I am fundraising to cover medical expenses for my dog, Patina. I've been a yoga teacher in Los Angeles for 20+ years. In 2015, I rescued Patina—a jack russell / beagle mix—from the pound after she was seized from a hoarding house with 70 other dogs. She was shy, gentle, and sweet, but extremely traumatized. She started coming to yoga classes, hiking, and camping with me, and over the years she became a confident, curious, tail-wagging, happy dog. She has been my companion for 8 years. On July 2nd, we went on one of our daily walks on the Elysian Park trail. Patina was attacked by three shepherds whose owner was unable to keep them on leash. She was torn apart in the mauling. I also sustained puncture wounds. When I was able to free her from the attacking dogs, I scooped her up and began running away. Luckily, two neighbors found me and we were able to get Patina to the right urgent care for complex 5-hour surgery. The bill from the second facility was $325, and the third vet bill for the operation & further care came to nearly $13,000. I am elated to report that a talented vet surgeon at Access Specialty Animal Hospital, Pasadena, was able to save Patina and, while she's not out of the woods, she is returning to her usual self: capricious, curious & wonderful. The outpouring of support has been uplifting.
