Hi guys! Please meet the smooshable, lovable, and barely-made-it-out-alive Meatball (fka Odie)! Meatball’s story is a tough one. One of the many reasons we fight so hard for animal rights, tougher laws, ending backyard breeding, adopting, and responsible dog ownership. Meatball is just a year old. In that time he was brought into this world *on purpose* as a genetic nightmare. Now don’t get me wrong, he deserves the BEST home regardless of his poor breeding, but no dog deserves to be a product of purposely bred poor genetics resulting in, what can turn into, serious medical issues. Anyways, moving on to the next part of his life - he was sold and dumped - not once, not twice, but three times (that we know of). The last home he had got in trouble with animal control (her son was actively abusing Meatball) so instead of doing the right thing, they sold him to someone down the street, and that person turned around and tied him to a pole in Roxbury THE NEXT DAY and he was brought to a shelter where they had no room to take care of him. He was set to be euthanized twice in two weeks. We reached out and pulled him from the shelter on his last day and with no foster available, he had to go to boarding where he still resides, just waiting on someone to love him enough to take him home. Yesterday we took our boy to the vet, his ears and eyes were oozing and he was showing some signs of distress. Turns out he has double ear infections, eye infections and a skin infection. Our boy was covered in bacteria and in some serious pain. While he has meds now to help clear up his infections, we have vet bills piling that still need to be paid. He also needs to go back for a recheck since one ear is so bad, they’re worried he will be resistant to the antibiotics. He is also scheduled for a neuter next week which is more funds we just don’t have. So. We’re here asking for help. For Meatball’s medical expenses and his boarding expenses (which will far exceed $2000 alone). Please consider any donation for this sweet boy!! Thank you! More information about Care Southcoast: We are an all volunteer, non-profit, no-kill animal rescue, we take the animals that would not do well or be accepted into a traditional shelter. We will spend whatever money we need to for medical, training and sheltering. We are not funded by any other concern and operate on donations and fundraisers alone.
