Hi friends, family, and community: I have a vulnerable ask: This past week my sweet alter-tending kitty and emotional support companion, Mz. Maybelle Love, had a life-challenging event occur and she ended up in the ER for a few days to receive supportive care after not eating, drinking, or going to the bathroom for 2 days. It is still unknown what triggered it but when I took her in she was hardly responsive and her heart rate was dangerously low. She was in a lot of pain as well. Before this, she was in good health with no concerns. She is a mostly indoor kitty with monitored outside time. I believe though that she may have nibbled something toxic in her quest for grass to nibble on. I was faced with a VERY challenging choice: put myself in financial hardship/a position to not be able to pay my bills OR potentially let this kitty pass out of my life (it looked that bad). This sweet kitty has helped me through many challenging times. She sits with me and meditates every morning and runs to me at the first sign of a tear. She will sit on my chest purring until I feel better. She wakes me up in the mornings with her loud purrs and gentle paw to the face. It was hard for me to imagine life without her, especially after the rough year+ we had just been through where her support was essential. Many of you have met the sweet cuddly Mz. Maybelle and know how loving she can be! Earlier this year I faced another financial hardship which drained all of my savings and safety net. I was just starting to recover from that. I did not ask for help then but I am now because I can not do this without help. Any help would be appreciated. This ended up costing me $3927.91 in vet bills. I am stressing over being able to make all my ends meet by early August and have been working on ways to increase my income. I am requesting support in helping pay for her medical bills which totaled $3927.91. All money received will go to paying off the debt I accrued for this emergency. Any help would be much appreciated! What happened: For reference: Maybelle is slightly less than 5 years old and is up to date on all her vet visits. I feed her high-quality wet food with water added and she gets a few kibbles of quality dry food on top (to get her to eat it). -Sunday 7.16.23 Am: Maybelle and I spent some time out in the yard in the am. She mostly lounged in one spot and I checked in on her as I did some yard work. -Sunday after 3pm: By the late afternoon I noticed something was not right as she was in loaf mode on the carpet by my bed. She showed no interest in food, water, or moving from that spot. -Sunday evening/9pm ish: I heard puking and rushed over. She had puked and pooped on the rug by my bed (not normal at all and a clear sign she was unwell). She ran and hid under the couch. I decided to monitor closely and see if there was any change overnight. -Monday 7.17.23: There still wasn’t any change in her status. She did wobble out from under the couch in the am which seemed like a good sign but then went back under. Still no interest in food, water, or going to the bathroom. I was locked into meetings/ work this day until late afternoon. After my last meeting she emerged from the couch again, puked, and was walking strange (as if drunk). I notice that her breathing and heart rate seem very slow/low. It was at this point I deemed an ER visit necessary (2-3 days without eating or drinking gets into emergency territory with kitties and can get very serious). -Monday 4pm ish- I take her to the ER vet. They take her vitals and confirm something is not right-low heart rate, slow breathing, looks to be in pain. They take xrays (nothing found), and then give her an IV and some meds. They release her back to me and tell me to monitor and if not better in the am to bring back in. I bring her back home and she immediately pees in the litter box which feels like a good sign. -Tuesday 7.18.23 early am: There has been no change in her demeanor. Still no signs of litter box use other than the pee when I brought her home. No interest in food or water (I would test little bits of her favorite foods and place them near her). Stayed in hiding the whole time. -Tuesday am: I bring her back into the ER. I am told she needs to stay overnight and get multiple tests to try and figure out what is wrong as she should have responded to the initial treatment. -Tues-Weds: She stays overnight in the ER hooked on IV and getting meds. They do an ultra sound, blood test, and urinalysis. All results came back normal. Still no idea what is causing this. They give her pain meds and an appetite stimulant. -Wednesday 7.19.23-I get a call that she is eating again and they deem her stable enough to go home. -Wednesday-Sunday-I monitor her closely at home. It takes her a few days to regain her strength. She mostly rests and eats. She doesn’t have strength to jump up on things. -Friday 7.21.23- I notice her walking weird again. Drunk/dizzy wobble. She loses interest in food and water again and hides. -Saturday 7.22.23 am- she has regained her interest in food and water. -Sunday 7.23.23-She seems to have stabilized and is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom. Still walking a bit strange. -Monday 7.24.23: She seems to have fully stabilized and started doing her usual routine of jumping up on my bed to wake me up to feed her in the am with a soft lil paw to the face and loud purrs (something I missed soooooo much!)
