Hi, my name is Lily, and this is my 4 month old kitty named Maya. UPDATE 8/21/23 First I want to thank everyone so much for their donations! Maya has been able to continuously receive the vet care and medications needed due to the kindness of everyone who donated. Her blood work is a lot better than when she was initially diagnosed with FIP, but she is still having a lot of issues with her eyes. As stated she has uveitis but she is now having corneal changes that aren’t responding to treatment. Between August 4th and 14th I spent over $1000 on vet care just for her eyes. We have an appointment to see an eye specialist this upcoming Tuesday, and I’m sure we are going to need to be seen more often just like we have been. Maya is at risk of going blind but I’m doing everything I can to help her. I’ve just ordered a couple more vials of medicine last night but really need more assistance now as the multitude of vet visits have been very costly, along with the medicine. Anything helps, truly, as we have spent a lot more than we initially thought we would and we are only about halfway through treatment. I have high hopes that we will find a solution for Maya’s eyes so that she isn’t in pain anymore and they clear up. Thank you so much! END UPDATE. Maya was diagnosed with a deadly disease called FIP on Tuesday, July 11th. On July 10th, she seemed fine. Around lunchtime on Tuesday I noticed her starting to tremble a bit and began monitoring her very closely as I knew something was off. Just 5 hours after that, her front limbs began to lock up and she would fall over, bringing them to her face. She was taken to the ER vet shortly after those symptoms appeared which is where they discovered that she has FIP. They told me I would lose her and there was nothing they could do. I was devastated and could not imagine losing her so shortly after losing one of my other cats. Luckily, I remembered reading about this disease and how there is a treatment that’s saved thousands of cats’ lives, it just isn’t FDA approved and therefore inaccessible through a veterinary office. I was able to get into contact with someone who referred me to the FIP warriors group on Facebook, and less than 24 hours after leaving the ER vet I was able to locate medicine and give Maya her first injection. On Wednesday, before she got her medication, she started to have seizures throughout the day. It was incredibly scary to watch and know that all I could do was hold her and give her kisses while it happened. Everything started to progress extremely quickly and I was getting more worried for her. Once she received her first dose of the medicine, the seizures happened less and less up until they stopped after her second dose of medication. It is now Monday, July 17th and her shaking has subsided to almost nothing, and she hasn’t had a seizure since Thursday. This treatment seems to be helping and I’m extremely hopeful that it WILL work. It is just extremely costly, which is why I’ve made this fundraiser. The treatment for this disease is 84 days long, followed by 84 days of observation. Once we hit the 2 week mark, Maya will be able to switch over from injections to pills. The cost of the pills I’ll need for those remaining 70 days is $840. This isn’t including the vet visits she will need throughout, which will likely be every 2 weeks-1 month; she has her first visit tomorrow with the vet that will be seeing her throughout treatment. Maya will also need blood work done monthly. Within the first 5 days of her treatment we have already spent over $1,000 and could really use the help from our community and anyone who is able and willing to help. Maya has a sister named Josie, and they are meant to be together until they’re both old. I love them both so much and don’t want to lose Maya. I know she can fight this and get healthy again. Even if you’re unable to donate, just sending thoughts, prayers, and well wishes is extremely appreciated more than we can say. Thank you for reading all of this if you’ve gotten this far
