On Friday 14th July 2024, Allah SWT called back a truly wonderful human being to start his journey into the next life. Haji Abdul Aziz Khota leaves behind a wife, two daughters and grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He had a special bond with his grandchildren as most grandparents do, and would always want to spend more time with them. Often taking his granddaughter Aa'isha to pick apples from the garden, he would then cut them for her to eat. A small and simple act, but filled with volumes of love and affection. He had a passion for repairing things and giving them a new lease of life, the smell of his soldering iron no doubt will be seared and etched into the hearts of his family members. No conversation was ever boring, his knowledge and intellect amazing, as well as his achievements. He worked hard and made countless sacrifices for his family and kept well with relations. With all of this, his humility and generosity shone through. Abdullah uncle was truly the definition of a simple and humble man. Wearing simple clothes, driving a simple car and living his life in a simple manner. A brilliant mind, though he never made anyone feel below himself, nor did he offend anyone. He was always kind and loving to children and adults alike. He was a regular at the Boulevard Musalla, one of our muazzins and always eager to learn about deen at any opportunity. He has without a doubt made his impact to more people than he would have ever known. He was an authentic man, not bothered about the dunyawi pleasures or showing off. His last moments in this world were spent in doing what he loved, where he prayed his Asr salaah with jamaa'ah, went home and was reading the Quran. Let's all take a leaf out of his book to try and live a more authentic and humble life and hope that Allah blesses us with an ending like his. In memory of Abdullah uncle we're raising money as a Sadaqah Jariyah in partnership with the West Bengal Charity Foundation to build a masjid. It's only fitting that a masjid be built to honour him. He loved the masjid and the local musalla was perfect for him. He was one of the muazzins there, always coming early, entertaining us with his anecdotes, knowledge and opinions. When you heard the shuffle of shoes, you knew Abdullah uncle was about to enter the musalla. A huge loss to the family and community. Inshallah a masjid in one of the poorest places in India - West Bengal. Your donations will allow this to happen. A community, who we know nothing about, and will probably never meet, but share the DNA strands of deen and imaan. With that connection alone we are blessed enough to be in a position to help them. They would benefit by having a place to offer their salaah as well as having wudhu facilities and access to clean water. A place to connect to Allah, a place for the community to grow and potentially be the catalyst for gems in the making. For generations they will benefit and Abdullah uncle will reap the rewards from this act of sadaqah jariyah, without taking away any hasanaat from your own donations and intentions. Inshallah with this in mind, let us hope and pray that Allah grants Abdullah uncle an easy transition in the qabr, grant him the highest maqaam in Jannatul Firdaus and grant the family Sabr'un Jameel. Ameen. One day we will inevitably be in need of such kind acts - may Allah grant us all the tawfeeq - Ameen.
