The youth and volunteers in Movement for Youth and Childrens' Rights Organisation (MYCRO) in Sierra Leone, with chapters and volunteers in several Western African countries and Ethiopia, want to make a difference. They live in countries and communities of unrest, violence and insecurity and have for years worked voluntarily to support children and youth affected by violence and hardships in their regions. Hello! I am Gert, a former UN worker and a Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC). I have given about 30 of them an introductory training in NVC, and I think NVC can help them believe even more in themselves and spread the message of self-confidence, empathy and peace in their respective countries. I have worked with MYCRO's leader, Dominic Maada Macavoray, since the 2000s, and he has already trained in NVC and shown commitment, persistence and inclusion. This fundraiser has two goals: 1) We would like to cover the costs they had in trying to get a visa for an international NVC training in Norway in June-July 2024. These four individuals in the photo, Mabinty, Dominic, Isatu and Alpha, travelled to Accra, Ghana to get a visa, and even with our reassurances, the Norwegian Embassy turned the application down, thinking that the turmoil in their own country, Sierra Leone, meant that they would simply go to Norway to look for a better life. They spent a month in Ghana, just waiting for the Norwegian Embassy to finally say no. The funds they spent is now eating away from their community work, and we would like to help them replace some of it. They spent USD 4,260 on this turmoil (travel, visa expenses, accommodation and living expenses), and we managed to collect about USD 300 to help them a bit. 2) We would now like to give them NVC training in Sierra Leone. Kirsten Kristensen (also a Certified Trainer with CNVC) and I would like to go to Freetown, Sierra Leone, to train 30-40 of these bright and dedicated youth for 4-5 days in November 2024. The rest of the donations would therefore go to cover our travel, accommodation and course-related course. With this, we can make a real investment and difference in West Africa. Would you like to support these young people, truly wanting to spread the message of nonviolence in their countries? We truly hope for your support, and no amount is too small. Thank you!
