I met so many beautiful dogs in Nepal. Most are street dogs and village dogs. They live mostly on their own. But they are not really alone. They find family with other dogs and with the humans who look out for them, sometimes with food, sometimes with care and love. So many of these “community dogs” are doing really well. They are playful and strong. I also met dogs who are not doing well on their own. They've fallen ill and have no veterinary care, or they've been harmed, either accidentally on the road, or intentionally though abuse. Some are just severely neglected. Nepal has a number of incredible organizations devoted to caring for the dogs and other animals. One is Sneha's Care. I will share more about them soon. For now, I want to focus on just one dog. She touched me very deeply. I haven't been able to stop thinking about her. The people at Sneha's Care found her a month ago. She is elderly. She's clearly had some puppies in her life. When they found her, she was badly infested with parasites, so badly, she lost an eye and almost an ear. She was extremely malnourished. She was dying in someone's backyard. They named her Fighter. She has a will to live. I wish I'd captured more photos of her. But I all I could do was feel so much compassion, concern, and love for her. And shock. Shock at how un-alive she looked. Just bones. Half blind. Only a few teeth. Trembling But with the attention of the volunteers and vets at Sneha's Care, she has come back from the brink. The spark of life is still in her. It shines in her one seeing eye. As the vets redressed her wounds, and as she wobbled and trembled under their hands, I held up my camera and saw all the life in her, all her spirit, gleaming back at me. I promised her I would share her story with you, and that we would all care. Can we possibly raise money for her? For the vets at Sneha's Care, in Fighter's name? I have set a goal of $1,000 and started it with $200. If enough of us give just $10 dollars, we can do it. If you’re already giving to other causes, I understand. Maybe you can just share? I am in regular contact with her vets, and they will send me updates and photos. Thank you. I love you all.
