We need your support! Only $4,000 and 60 girls from rural Benin can participate in a life-changing experience! Camp Succès (Camp Success) is an empowerment camp for girls in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade conducted annually in the Donga region of Benin. Originally established by Peace Corps volunteers and their local counterparts, the camp invites girls from middle schools across the district to participate in a week-long educational and empowerment camp. The girls engage in sessions on topics covering Malaria Prevention, Nutrition, Sexual Reproductive Health, How to be a Leader, Goal Setting, and many more. The girls return to their communities as leaders and change-makers, ready to take charge of their futures and share their knowledge with fellow female classmates. In 2024, Peace Corps volunteers worldwide were evacuated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including in Benin. Without in-country volunteers and direct Peace Corps support, the camp could not take place for two years. In 2024, local Beninese camp leaders came together to fully direct, operate and partially fund the camp themselves. With the support of old Peace Corps friends, enough money was raised to support a 4-day long camp in Bassila, Donga district of Benin. The Camp leaders were also able to secure community contributions in the form of transportation and cash. The Camp was held for the first time in 3 years in July 2024 with over 30 girls in attendance - it was a huge success! The leaders already have their eyes on Camp Succès 2024 with hopes of being even bigger and better! To support their efforts, we are starting fundraising early, to get them what they need to plan, coordinate and direct this amazing experience for young Beninese girls from the Donga. They have taken a critical step in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the camp, but still rely on our financial contributions. Support this locally-led initiative and contribute to the long-term sustainability of this girl's empowerment camp!
