Hi Family, It’s Lex! I feel like it's been forever since I've seen you all, and hope that life is treating you kindly. I have spent the last year steeped in wonderful artistic experiences and on an extremely fulfilling creative journey, and want to catch you up! I have had the privilege of being named a 2024 Black Midwest Initiative fellow, Culture Works Artist Opportunity Grantee and Allegro Grant of the Dayton Foundation recipient, as well as a Doug Varone Devices choreographer and Sarasota Contemporary Dance Company Rising Choreographer twice. It is my goal to create work that provokes thought, feeds the soul, and ignites a desire to learn, love, and share with the collective. I am currently raising funds to support the success of two opportunities I have been blessed enough to receive this summer. The first is the creation of a brand new choreographic work traveling to the “Black Is…” choreographer’s showcase in Wilmington, Delaware on July 28th, 2024. “Black Is…” is a biennial cultural event that prioritizes showcasing up-and-coming Black choreographers in an effort to create space for those who are not established, who are underfunded, and/or have not taken the traditional route in making a name for themselves in the concert dance world. I have found a cast of five extremely talented artists here in Dayton, Ohio that will join me in the creation process of this work, and am asking for the fiscal support of each of them for process and performance. The second opportunity: I was selected as one of three choreographers in the world to participate in The Royal Conservatory’s ChoreoComp program in the Hague, Netherlands this upcoming August. I will spend a week in the city center speed creating choreographic work with composers from around the world. The grant I received in conjunction with this program covers the cost of my participation, leaving me responsible for my accommodation, which is what I'm raising funds for. If I have learned anything, I have learned that it takes a village. Thank you for being a part of mine; please help me continue growing it. I thank you so much in advance for your continued support, and I look forward to sharing my work with you.
