Hi! I’m Donna aka Baps aka Frenchy. I’ve been playing roller derby since 2012. Roller derby has taught me a number of things. That I can be strong and assertive. That I can do a lot of things, no matter my body type. It’s a place where I can recover from mental health struggles. Somewhere I can be myself and there are kind, positive people out there (in the derby community). I’ve recently seen my skates are deteriorating. With my heels wearing through to the leather. My toes are scruffed almost through and the lace rivets are coming out. My team recently played LRD Batter C. Before the game I had a little challenge to myself. If we won I would work towards all new skates, if we lost I would work towards new boots. So…… I need to work towards new boots. Here’s the trick, I have super wide fit! Finding boots are very tricky. I’ve had skates before that were wide but still had to lace them in weird ways so I didn’t kill my feets. I’ve looked into how much most skates are and the costs of mounting them. I now can fundraise by making things to sell, helping those who need my skill set or just a small donation from kind people. Any funds left over from my skate fundraiser I would like to donate to a local mental health charity. Throughout my life I’ve had periods of anxiety, depression and now looking into an adhd diagnosis. Without local help, I do not think I would be here. Charities like Centre 33 help young people a number of ways, including counselling. Cogwheel help make counselling affordable. I could go on! Please help me raise funds for me to continue a sport that helps me in many ways and charities that are close to my heart and brain. Thank you x Photo: Benjamin Valsler
