Hi, my name is Jy Thurstun. I am born and raised in Geraldton, WA. I am feeling very humble and proud to be selected into the Australian U18 Men's Softball team that will be travelling to Mexico in November 2024 to compete in the WBSC World Cup. I am looking forward to playing on an international arena, highlighting just how far regional athletes can go if committed and passionate in their chosen sport. If I continue to perform at a high level I will have a chance for selection into the 2028 Olympic team, this would be a dream come true. There were a number of events leading up to selection into the Australian squad. The selectors oversaw our input to our local Geraldton Softball Association competition, they were also scouting at the Jan 2024 U19 Men's National championships at Mirrabooka. Having won MVP for the WA team at those championships I was invited to join the Australian Elite Player squad. A further trial in Sydney in June, resulted in selection to the Australian team to compete in Mexico. Getting to this position has taken alot of dedication, travel, blood, sweat and tears but it's so worth it, I can't wait to go out and compete and hopefully make everyone proud of my efforts. The experience gained by travelling with other elite players and world class coaches, while playing the best teams in the world will be invaluable. Any donations received will be used to assist with: Training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra prior to the competition. Travel and accommodation and other associated costs in Mexico Uniforms and equipment as required All donations are so gratefully appreciated. I can't wait to keep you all updated on my journey with this team and will provide links when available to watch us compete in the World Cup. I will give every effort and hopefully make you all very proud! I hope everyone can jump on board and help me get to Mexico! Olè
