안녕하세요 가족과 친구들ㅋㅋㅋㅋHello Everyone. Family & Friends. I have reached my last semester at Seoul National University with wonderful funding all along the way supporting my graduate studies. Graduate studies in any subject is never a simple straight line, it is also hardly a gentle walk in the park. (Image: Pattern & Process Studio: infinite eel bridge/ semester 2)During the adventure, at times, it can feel like the apocalypse might just be a gentler alternative. Survival of the unfittest is the norm. Who has time for exercise with diapers to change and papers to write.  Caffine and carbohydrates are a feast of kings, the daily bread is often just that, bread, and too much of it. The waistline shows. (Image: Landscape History Seminar: presentation on "Catastrophe, Collapse and Zombies: Societial Failure and Ecology"/ semester 2) You start to wonder if you are in the right lane, most days with the sense that you haven't moved an inch ahead. The traffic congestion of life can make you question your decisions and doubt your choices. (Image: Alt-Urbanisms Studio: Traffic patterns in Naksongdae Intersection: Korean Pony Express/ studio 1 semester 1)Eventually you reach a certain point where you just admit to yourself, I'm in it for the long run and might as well stick it out. And while I'm in it, might as well give it my full effort. Which is why I'm asking for your help (especially from you penny pressed Downeasters). I'm in my last semster and want to just be a graduate student. All along, I've been a husband, father, bread winner, kosher bacon on the table placer first, graduate student second. The pitch and sway can get to you, constatly having to adjust to changing waves and winds. Good thing this flat lander came born with a study pair of sea-legs. (Image: Pattern & Process Studio: infinite eel bridge/ model study/ semester 2)I'm asking for help so that I can do just that, be a graduation student and worry less, with emphasis on the less about the bread and winning. With your support I can work less and study more in my final semester as I write my thesis. My research has gained interest internationally at various conferences and from editors of journals and publishers. I'm learning old ways of gardening by spending time with elderly Koreans in a small village perched between two mountains, in Seoul. A village in a mega-city. The lessons I'm learning are valuable in a period when our climate is changing, our society wondering why we bother with anything, and our own personal existential crisis(es) . This is work that can be used for improving our communities, economies and personal lives. (Image: Kaemi-Maeul, Hongjae-Dong, Seoul, Korea)Thank you for your time and support. All the best, (Image: Leah w/Mom)(Image: Leah Drawing w/ Dad)(Image: Leah et Dad) (Image: Leah w/ Halmonie et Bubbie)Thank you very much, 감사합니다, 제라드Jarod, Eun Ju & LeahP.S. for the rare update on my progess check outhttp://blog.namutilda.com
