On November 15, 2024, Jessica Pye was diagnosed with Degos Disease and on February 1 learned it was the systemic form. Jessica accepted her diagnosis with grace and strength. After a very hard-fought seven-month battle with this disease, Jessica passed away on July 28, 2024, with her husband by her side. She is survived by her husband Justin, their nine-year-old son Ethan, her sister Julie Kanara of Scottsdale, AZ, her brother Justin of Los Angeles, CA, her parents John and Barbara Haedrich of Kennett Square, PA, and her goddaughter, Savanna Gowdy of FL. Many friends, colleagues and family have reached out for donation opportunities in lieu of flowers and have asked about ways to donate to the Pye family after the loss of Jessica. Her ASU friends have set up a Memorial Fund in Jessica's memory for the benefit of her son Ethan and goddaughter, Savannah Gowdy. The Pye Family thanks you for your love and support. Justin asked to share the following with us: "Jessica was an incredibly strong but often private person who did not want to be a burden or ask for others’ help. For those unaware of her struggles, it was a difficult and challenging journey. She spent most of this year in the hospital fighting this relentless disease, finding solace in the unwavering support of our loving family here in Arizona. While she often did not have the energy to respond to all the messages of support she received, she appreciated every one of them. A true achiever, Jessica became an assistant professor of information systems at Arizona State University after earning her Ph.D. from Georgia State University. Her contributions to research and her exceptional teaching skills earned her admiration within the local and international IS community. Her circle of friends, family, and colleagues meant the world to her, and she cherished these bonds dearly. Jessica lived life to the fullest, exploring the world through her travels, immersing herself in horseback riding, finding joy in her beloved cat and expansive LEGO builds, delving into ancient history, and dedicating herself passionately to her work. Above all, she treasured the time spent with our beloved son Ethan, 9, who was the light of her life." The family thanks everyone who has helped them along the way, both in the past six months and throughout her life. Their deepest thanks also go to the fantastic doctors at the NIH, Chandler Regional Medical Center, Virginia Piper Cancer Center, and Mayo Clinic Hospital who did their best to help Jessica in every way they could while fighting the disease. Other ways to honor Jessica's memory: Donations to the Steffens Scleroderma Foundation in Jessica's name to support research for Degos Disease Jessica Pye Memorial AIS Doctoral Student College Fund to support one of Jessica's passion projects that she was instrumental in getting off the ground and to where it is today.
