I'm writing this on behalf of my cousin Jessica Covarrubias and our family. On June 23rd, Jessica's daughters Leah and Vivian were in a horrible car accident caused by someone running a red light. The driver didn't have insurance or a driver's license. Leah fought as hard as she could but ultimately succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, July 12th. Her big sister Vivian suffered a broken pelvis but is recovering well, though she has a long road ahead of her. Leah was only 19 years old. She was happy, healthy, and full of life before the accident, and she selflessly decided to donate her organs so that others could live on through her. Although we're devastated that she is no longer with us, we take solace in knowing that her heart will beat on, her lungs will breathe life into another human in need, her kidneys will allow multiple families to have more time with a loved one, and someone will see the world through her eyes and maybe find beauty in something Leah herself would have found beautiful. With every loss of life, a family is left to grieve and pick up the pieces just as ours is today. As we do that, and as Jessica tries to navigate life without her baby girl, we're doing all we can to ensure that she and her other three children Vivian, Jordan, and Aleacia, have all that they need to move forward. At a time when they need and deserve space to grieve and heal, they will be inevitably left with paperwork, medical bills, and other expenses. Anything you're able to contribute will go a long way to the funeral/memorial, medical bills for Vivian as she continues to recover, groceries and maybe a togo meal now and then when there simply isn't enough time and energy left to think about cooking, and any other unforeseen expense that will come their way. Please consider donating and sharing this LFEBridge to others who can help. Anything is appreciated, including your thoughts and prayers while Jessica, her kids, all of Leah's friends and loved ones, as well as our whole family, search for peace after this tragic loss of an incredible human being. We love you, Leah.
