On June 27th 2024, my sister, Rose Tresham’s husband, Jason, went missing from the hotel where he and his family were staying in Chester, VA while searching for an affordable home. Our family began frantically searching for him as he was a disabled veteran and an insulin dependent diabetic. Jason had his phone with him, but all calls went straight to voicemail. Being diabetic, and believing he did not have his insulin, we were extremely concerned that this was a life threatening situation. The police were notified on June 29th of his disappearance. Unfortunately, the detective believed that he just did not want to be found. However, we knew that was not the case as this was very uncharacteristic behavior of him. After days of searching, there were no signs of him. We continued our search through the news and social media, as well as through posting flyers and talking to people throughout the local community. We were finally able to convince the detective on the case to organize a small search party on July 7th. On that same day, a local business contacted the detective and said they had encountered him on the day of his disappearance. They noticed he was disoriented, confused, and in distress. After giving him a bottle of water, Jason said to them, “You saved my life.” They were uncertain of what to do, so they went back inside to get another bottle of water, but he had disappeared when they returned. Another employee of the business, stated they saw him crawl out of the woods onto the rock where the other employees found him, and then leave and go back into the woods. After hearing their recount, we began searching the area and calling out for him. A short while later, my brother-in-law’s deceased body was discovered by one of the employees in the woods, approximately 20 feet from the rock where he had been sitting. It is likely he died that same day or soon thereafter. Our family is absolutely devastated and heartbroken. My sister, Rose, and their son, Johnny, are grieving terribly and trying to make sense of it. They don’t have the financial means to cover a cremation and need help with housing and other living expenses. My sister has been working every day since her husband went missing to provide for her family, but she needs time to grieve and support her son. Everyone has been so caring and supportive of us during this difficult time. If you can find it in your hearts to help in some small way, we would greatly appreciate it. If you could also share this fundraiser, again, we would be so grateful. This is going to be a very long and painful journey for my sister as she tries to support her son, find a stable home, and provide for her family in the coming months. Thank you for your love, prayers, and support. If you wish to donate directly to the family you can do so through Venmo @jenniferburdine
