Hi Everyone! So I'm doing it... I'm finally going to make my first feature film. After years of writing plays and films, making short films, making theatre and photographing everything that would stand still long enough to let me snap it - I now feel ready to take on this feat, DIRECTING MY FIRST FULL FEATURE - in my style, with my voice. Through its honest portrayal of vulnerability and the triumph of the human condition, the film aims to inspire audiences to embrace their own struggles and reach out to others with compassion and understanding. The movie is called 'The Retreat for Very (very, very, very) Sad People' and because I am obsessed with Mike Leigh and completely inspired by his work, I am going to shoot this movie using "The Mike Leigh Method" For those of you not familiar with his work here are some of his quotes that resonate so deeply with me - here you will understand why I am so in love with him and also learn more about how I think and see the world and my approach to storytelling. "I make films because I am endlessly fascinated by people. I'm fascinated immediately to know about the lives that are going on around me. That is what drives me. And that is because everybody matters, everybody is there to be cared about, everybody is interesting and everybody is the potential central character in a story. Judging people is not acceptable." "I try and create for the audience something that relates to real-life experience. When you're meeting somebody for the first time, all you have to go on are your preconceptions and your stereotypes and whatever else, but gradually as you get to know them, they change. They become more three-dimensional, and you start to see them in layers." “I regard it as my job to find ways of giving each actor or actress something to get their teeth into, to liberate them to do really interesting characters, and to give them the opportunity to do stuff they don’t get to do in conventional pieces of work. It’s about getting actors to be creative in a real sense and elevating actors to the level of artists.” Here is the logline from my film: The Retreat for Very (very, very, very) Sad People A disparate group of individuals, each battling their own demons of severe depression, embark on an offbeat journey to an unconventional retreat deep in the wilderness. Guided by an enigmatic, mute woman, they engage in a series of eccentric exercises that challenge their perceptions, push their boundaries, and ultimately lead to an unforgettable journey of self-discovery and human connection. I'm asking you guys to help me fund my film, to invest in me and to invest in me as an artist and storyteller. Every single person that helps me to produce my movie will get a producing credit.
