Join us for a celebration of the 100th Birth Anniversary year of the great revolutionary thinker James Baldwin on Saturday November 2nd 2024 (1:00-3:30 PM) at the Chicago Public Library Harold Washington Branch Video Theater. Baldwin’s writings on whiteness, civilization and the crisis of the American empire show us a way for the continued struggle for peace and freedom at home and abroad in these times of crisis and intensifying war. The event will feature an original documentary screening on Baldwin’s life and ideas followed by a roundtable discussion with Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad from the Nation of Islam, Dr. Anthony Monteiro from the Saturday Free School for Philosophy and Black Liberation and other community members. It will also feature a musical performance by David Boykin, a Chicago based artist. This event is open and free to the public. Please consider donating for this event to help celebrate Baldwin and his ideas. Funds will be used for the travel of speakers for the event, honorariums and promotional fliers.
