Jacqueline Susan Batteiger's song of fifty years faded unexpectedly to silence on July 5th, 2024. Jackie suffered a sudden and tragic cerebral hemorrhage on July 1st, but as an organ donor, her last act of kindness was to help those in need and on July 5th she gave that final gift. Jackie knew her calling was in music for nearly her entire life. In high school, she played in jazz band, orchestra and marching band (and many other small groups and ensembles). She attended Heidelberg College in 1991 and received her bachelor's of Music Education, going on to teach in several positions as a substitute, then for 5 years in Columbus Public Schools. With a dedication to continually learning and building on her curriculum, she went on to receive her Master's in Music Education with Kodaly Emphasis from Capital University in 2001. In 2002, she found her professional home in the Bexley City School District at Maryland Elementary School where she taught for over 21 years. Jackie undeniably loved teaching children and believed wholeheartedly in education. The purpose of this fund is to continue to foster music education at the elementary level in the Bexley City School district. The Batteiger family will work with the Bexley City School District, the Maryland Elementary faculty and staff and the Maryland PTO to determine how best to allocate funds that honor Jackie's legacy and support children's love and interest in music. Any gifts are welcome and sincerely appreciated by the Batteiger Family and Bexley Schools.
