It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Stephen Cohen - beloved husband, father, brother, son, and friend. Stephen died unexpectedly this weekend at the age of 47. He leaves behind a grieving wife, Robin, and his two young children Braden (10) and Avery (8); his older brother Craig and sister-in-law, Lena, niece Olivia (age 11); and his younger sister Melissa. The family is hoping to raise funds to cover the cost of a funeral and a cemetery plot, as well as to cover both the short- and long-term needs of his children. The date of his service is not yet known, but will be updated here once the plans have been finalized. Stephen, or Steve as his close friends and family called him, was a loving father and husband. A true family man and hard worker whose career in the construction industry allowed him to provide a loving home for his wife and children. This sudden and unexpected loss is devastating. We are asking for help from our community and loved ones as we are in a time of needed support. Stephen was working hard to build college savings for his two children. After funeral costs are covered, any remaining donations will go into college savings accounts for them. Steve was a hard worker but always made time for his children and family. He was an involved father, often investing long hours into helping them with school projects. One of the family’s favorite pastimes was riding bikes around the neighborhood. He dedicated a lot of quality time to his wife and children, usually content to have a relaxing evening at home cooking dinner and watching movies together. Melissa recalls a hidden tenderness that showed in his care of a small stray cat that he found with his wife, Robin. He was kind and gentle with such a tiny animal, and he continued to show that tenderness with his children after they were born. He was generous and thoughtful, often insisting on paying for his siblings’ meals when they all went out together, and making sure to ask what kinds of drinks or snacks he should have on hand when they visited. Steve was also a big sports fan and spent time watching Mets games or attending Islanders games. He had lifelong friendships from his childhood and they remained close up until his death.
