It is with deep sadness and shattered hearts that we share the news of David’s sudden and unexpected passing. David passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 25th. He leaves behind his loving wife, Katja, their two amazing young sons, Matteo (8) and Easton (5), and many loving family members and friends. David was born and grew up in the City of Richmond, where he was often at the ice rink, refereeing or playing hockey. After finishing his teaching degree, he and Katja moved out to Abbotsford and eventually settled in Langley, where they have lived for the past 14 years. David started his teaching career with the Abbotsford School District in 2008. He transitioned into administration as the Vice Principal at Sandy Hill Elementary, eventually becoming the Principal at Aberdeen Elementary in 2017. To be closer to home, David moved to the Langley School District this past September and became the Principal of Gordon Greenwood Elementary. He was a talented educator and believed passionately in the power of relationships. He was avid about making a difference and he lived this every day. The surrounding community will feel this loss and will be left with a void that will never be filled. David's presence will always be remembered and will never be forgotten. He will be truly missed. David was a wonderful, kind and passionate person. He was such a bright light in the lives he touched. He found joy in coaching his sons in hockey and loved to spend his summers in the Okanagan with his family. David was an amazing husband, caring brother, loving son, devoted father, dedicated teammate, loyal friend and admired colleague. For Katja and the boys, losing David has left them with an unimaginable loss that will forever impact their lives. Words from the family: We are deeply thankful for all the support that has been given to us. We appreciate every single message, phone call, card, meal, gift, visit, and acts of kindness. It has reassured us that throughout this sad and difficult time, there are so many who love and care for our family. If you wish to support Katja, Matteo and Easton as they grieve and learn to navigate a new normal, we know they would greatly appreciate your support. We thank you in advance and feel so fortunate for the love and kindness that people have shared since David's passing. We will honour his life with memories of joy & love and ensure that his memory lives on.
