Hello. My name is Rachael Ortiz-Marsh, owner of the Tennessee Trojans Women's Football team. On July 14, 2024, our teammate and fellow sister was tragically killed. La'Toria "LT" Mitchell, #62, was a quintessential example of our team's “why” and how football truly is transformational. When she found football in August 2024, LT not only found a second family and a sisterhood, she found a deep sense of purpose and a sanctuary on the field. This newfound purpose drove her to continue turning her life around. She found strength and courage on the football field, carrying it into her daily life to navigate and conquer any challenge. And, she gained the courage to begin taking steps toward starting her own business as a chef. She was always happy to get work in on the field or gym, happy to help a teammate that was struggling on or off the field, and always eager to do whatever the coaches asked of her. She was an avid volunteer of the Preston Taylor Boys and Girls Club/YMCA and was set to begin coaching football for the Music City Jr. Firebirds 7-8 y/o youth group. She brought our motto Seize the Day to life, becoming our heart and soul, and a real-life example of what it means to embrace the Trojan Way. Everyone should have an LT in their lives. LT loved our Trojan family through and through, but no love compared to that for her son. Affectionately known as Looney Man and Junior, the pride in his eyes every time he saw his mother in Trojans gear accompanied by the smiles and hugs at practices and post-game let her know she was exactly where she was supposed to be. Funds raised will go directly to LT's immediate family to assist with funeral expenses, establish a college fund for her son - Junior, and help the family offset financial burdens brought on by the sudden loss of their loved one. Join the Trojans in wrapping our arms around Junior and LT’s family. We hope they know much she was loved, and the impact she had on our organization and everyone around her.
