Hello, My name is Junior and I’m am starting this Go-fund me for our fur son Hugo. Hugo just turned a year old and has had complications since I’ve had him at 6 weeks old. At 6-8 months old I noticed Hugo having a lot of discomfort when laying down, I knew something wasn’t right. Went to the vet and later the specialist who concluded he needed elongated palate surgery and Stentonic snare reduction to improve his breathing. Moving forward we proceeded with surgery and roughly 2 months later I noticed Hugo having more discomfort, when laying down he will constantly stick his tongue out, and lift his head up to breathe/swallow. Once again back to the vet we go ( different vet )after further examination he has what’s known as "everted laryngeal saccules" from the elongated palate. This is part of brachycephalic airway syndrome. The laryngeal saccules are small sacs that sit inside the larynx. They evert, or turn outwards, into the airway and further obstruct airflow. The treatment for everted laryngeal saccules would be surgical removal by a specialist. They would also be able to remove more of the soft palate if that is indicated. This is the most recent diagnosis, several weeks prior to this appointment the kids were outside playing fetch with Hugo. Everything seemed fine until the following morning he couldn’t walk on his back left leg. I thought he may have just pulled a muscle so I didn’t think too much of it. A week later he still wasn’t walking so I called the vet back and asked to have it checked out while we were there. X-rays indicated there is evidence of stifle effusion (fluid within the knee joint) indicating instability of the cranial cruciate ligaments (CCL). The CCL is the main stabilizer of the knee in dogs, think ACL in humans. There is evidence of a tear in Hugo's right CCL on x-rays. Sadly dogs that tear one CCL are more prone to tearing the other. Surgical repair (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy -TPLO) is the gold standard for treatment. As of now Hugo is limping around on pain meds & inflammation meds but I don’t how much longer we can sustain this. 7/18/23 we went to the specialist we were referred to by the 2nd vet we went and seen (the more opinions the better). Upon exam, the specialist believes Hugo has a partial tear in his left CCL as well. Attached are the diagnosis and procedures needed with cost. The cost is for ONE leg. We would like to start with the right leg to get him so pain relief then hopefully do the left. After previous treatments accumulating over $3000 ( doctor visits, medications, surgery, X-rays, etc) and currently still paying those debts, I can’t afford to further help Hugo without help. It’s breaks my heart especially for my daughter & son who adore Hugo! He has been a big part of our lives. Hugo deserves the world and I feel like he isn’t getting that. He is still a puppy and has so much life in him. These surgeries would help Hugo get that life back in him. If there is one thing I’ve learned through this entire process it would be - GET PET INSURANCE as soon as you get a pet. Friends I’m not expecting anything but if you could please donate at least $1 and share this so we can hopefully we can reach 6,900 people.
