Hi everyone, Thanks for visiting our page and taking the time to read about my good friend Zabree and her dog Hobbes. Please read their story below and donate if you’re able ♥️ Hobbes is a three-legged, one year old German Shepherd who entered Zabree’s life last summer at a time that she really needed him. Hobbes has endured so many hardships in his short life but he remains the sweetest and most loving boy and is always able to make the people around him smile. Shortly after he was born there was an incident that resulted in a partial limb amputation, and therefore Hobbes is missing his left hind paw. Although ambulation is a struggle, Hobbes does not let his disability stop him and he always tries his best to maintain an active lifestyle as a young German Shepherd. He has been working very hard with a canine rehabilitation therapist and daily home exercises in preparation for a planned prosthetic leg to replace his missing left limb. Recently, it was determined that Hobbes has torn the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) on his right leg, his ‘good’ leg, which is the ligament that helps to stabilize his knee joint during any weight-bearing movements. This injury will require an orthopaedic surgery called Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) to repair. Surgical repair of this ligament will provide Hobbes the quickest and most predictable recovery, in hopes for him to function comfortably again on his three remaining legs. Since Hobbes is so young and relies so heavily on his right leg to walk, it is recommended for surgery to be done as soon as possible and the procedure is estimated to cost at least $7000 plus additional fees for follow up appointments and radiographs. This will also require them to travel across the province, roughly eight hours, in order to receive the procedure from a qualified surgeon in Vancouver. The purpose of the prosthetic limb was to help prevent future skeletal and arthritic complications in his right leg by offloading weight onto his left partial fourth limb. However, repairing the damage to his injured right limb now takes precedence. After Hobbes has fully healed from surgery, Zabree will then proceed with getting the prosthetic as planned, which costs roughly an additional $4000. In addition to his musculoskeletal issues, Hobbes has also been dealing with severe environmental allergies and skin issues over the past year, causing tremendous irritation and a reliance on various daily medications. In Hobbes’ short life, there have been countless veterinary appointments and thousands of dollars of medical expenses that most dogs don’t require in their entire lifetime but this surgery is by far the biggest and most unexpected cost. Hobbes is the happiest, smartest and most empathetic dog. He has brought so much love and light to Zabree’s life. His spirit cannot be shaken and so, in return, she would like to do anything she can to give him the best quality of life possible. As you can tell from above, Zabree is so compassionate and is willing to go above and beyond for her dogs to have a beautiful life, far more than most people would, which is truly admirable. Thank you for taking the time to learn about Hobbes’ story and the journey that lies ahead. Hobbes and his family are very appreciative of any support you are able to offer, it will all go such a long way. Whether it is keeping them in your thoughts and prayers, offering some advice if you have gone through something similar, sharing this post, or donating towards his surgery, they are forever grateful!
