Over 12 days I will climb the peaks of the Ladakh region to raise awareness and funds for the children living within the Himalayas. Like everyone on this platform, I have my own story as to why I am supporting the Buddhist lama “Choezen Kuchen Rinpoche” based in Bhutan. My story starts that over three months in 2024, my team and I worked tirelessly to win the nationwide Race4Good challenge. Our goal was to use a sustainable business idea to lift the small village of Yangsijung, located in Nepal's remote Himalayas, out of absolute poverty. In this competition, all teams were given a budget and the best team’s idea would be implemented. After researching the conditions and possibilities to generate income for the people living in this area we came up with a basic, yet successful idea. Planting nettle! This weather and the altitude-resistant plant could not only be used for nutrition but also to knit strings that would be used for handcrafts and the construction of houses. After our idea was elected national winner by successful business judges such as Ronald Stones, seeds and farming equipment were bought, which were given to the people who to this day are profiting from our idea. It felt incredibly rewarding to have helped less fortunate people using an innovative idea like this one and allow them to start a new life with perspective. Whilst participating in this project, I was incredibly amazed by these hard-working, yet friendly people and decided to do some research into their culture and way of living. One step led to the next and two years later I was lucky enough to meet a Lama, the "11th incarnation of Choeze Kuchen Rinpoche" now residing in Bhutan, who is collecting money to support more than 50 children he adopted from the surrounding region. Speaking to him, I could feel the goodness of his heart and incredible kindness. I knew that I had to support his efforts. For this reason, I am dedicating this exhausting journey through the western Himalayas, to the less fortunate children who have spent their childhood living within them. Our journey starts in Ladakh also known as "Little Tibet" where our trail will begin with the Matho pass at an altitude of 4,900 m from where we will continue along the Shang pass at 4,700 m and lastly follow the Chogdo pass at 4,600 m. Throughout this dangerous journey, altitude sickness and freezing whilst sleeping in tents at extreme temperatures will be inevitable, but exactly this will help us experience what many children do on a daily basis to get a simple education at school. Let's take action together to fight poverty among Himalayan children and allow them to start a new life with perspective at one of the monasteries built by the Choezen Kuchen Rinpoche. I promise it will be worth it. All donations are going straight to the “Choeze Kuchen Rinpoche” Lama who will distribute these funds in several different ways. * Help fund the construction of the new "Thimphu monastery" which will be another place where children will be hosted and educated. * Support one of the many adopted children living in one of the existing monasteries in Bhutan. * Allow the Choezen Kuchen Rinpoche to adopt more children who have come from poor, complex or abusive families. All funds will be transferred directly using the website of the Choezen Kuchen Rinpoche. https://choezekuchen.com Thank you, Joel
