Hi, my name is Chris. I was inspired to make pirate treasure for the site at Higgins Lake after seeing how excited my kids got finding plastic coins down on this dive site 3 years ago. I noticed the current was sweeping most of these into deeper waters so with further research and looking for ideas, I found a more sustainable material called Norwegian gold. This will prevent pollution of lighter plastics in the lake. I came up with an idea to make Norwegian gold coins to give away to the kids throughout the summer. July 2024 is when the first batch of coins was place down at the site with the treasure chest. I cannot believe the response we got on our Facebook page with all the happy people that found them and looking to find them in the future. I have been reached out to by several people looking to donate to keep this going. I have made a go fund me to offset cost of material and equipment. Nobody participating in the treasure hunt is expected to donate. All donations will go into producing more Norwegian gold coins and upkeep of the equipment and expendables that go along with the forging process to make the treasure. We reached the first goal and moved the bar a little higher to cover some of the cost for this year’s coin drops. The $1000 goal is just a starting point. I have way more money invested in just the equipment to make these coins. Lots of non-ferrous metals are used in each batch to forge these. Thank you for your generosity and I hope you enjoy.
