Hi, Brooke here and for those that don’t know the backstory of polo, I’ll try to make it quick. He slipped out a back door in July due to a door not latching properly. When we got back home we realized he was gone and immediately started looking. I put flyers in mailboxes, posted on all the Facebook sites, checked the shelters regularly, posted on a website called pawboost that has a high percentage of reuniting strays with their owners. I did this for 6 months. Somehow by whatever means necessary he was picked up about 15 miles from home last night by a literal angel of human being. How she found me to get him back to me after 6 months in a short 6 hours is nothing short of a miracle. He was/is extremely malnourished. Dehydrated. Matted. Has a severe eye infection. Signs of dementia. And some intense arthritis. We took him immediately to the emergency vet and they went to work on running X-rays, diagnostic tests, IV’s, grooming, antibiotics, sedation, etc. i opted not to have him hospitalized as I wanted him to sleep at home after this long and rough journey he’s been on. After meeting with his vet this morning, more lab work, more antibiotics and pain meds and eye treatments, we have decided to keep him home for a couple of days and see what some TLC can do for him. We will re evaluate next week and see how he has progressed. Everyone has been so kind and so generous during the midst of the most expensive month of the year. Some have reached out asking for other ways to donate and suggesting a go fund me as not everyone has Venmo. Im not sure what the road to recovery looks like for him but I’m certain he’s been through hell and back the last 6 months. Im doing everything in my power to keep him as comfortable as possible. If you feel led to donate money it will go towards all vet expenses and sedated grooming sessions as we further treatments and care. If you feel led to donate items such as canned food, blankets, or pillows (he’s a big pillow guy), private message me and I would be more than thankful to come get it from you or meet you. Thank you again to everyone that has already donated and sent me recommendations and kind words. This is the perfect season to remind us that there are so so so many good people out there. With lots of love and gratefulness -Brooke and Polo
