Friends and Family, I am here to ask for your financial support so that I can bring five of my students to Puerto Rico in August to study sustainable agriculture! I make this request because I am passionate about this work, and I believe that every bit of your support is going directly toward the making of a more beautiful world. Over the last two years, I have been working at Mile High 360, a non-profit dedicated to empowering youth from underprivileged backgrounds. As part of my work, I launched the "Veggies Abroad" service learning team. Over the course of each year, the "Veggies Abroad" students learn about urban agriculture, composting, sustainability, the growing and preparing of healthy foods, community engagement, and small business practices. As part of the program we have built gardens for members of our community, diverted over 7,000 lbs of organic waste from landfill via bicycle, harvested rainwater, re-established native plants in our parks and waterways, and led workshops and classes within our program to share these skills with the 90+ students and staff in the Mile High 360 program. The purpose of this work is to show students the potential found in sustainable solutions which not only save money and resources but yield a fulfilling and vibrant life based around community and ingenuity. The culmination of students' 80+ hours of service learning work is a trip abroad where we have the opportunity to study regenerative agriculture in Puerto Rico. Our trip last year was a great success, and one of the great side effects of a successful service learning trip is that word spreads to friends. This year, we have more students, and as a result, more costs associated with the trip. We have done a great deal of fundraising this year to bring this trip to fruition, but we need your help now to get across the finish line. Please consider supporting these students! Every dollar helps. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all. This means a great deal to me. -Joe
