Hi, we are Stevi Zabawa and Lily Newton and together we make up Forced Party Films. We are raising money to produce our short film, Nan. Our short tells the story of Nan, inspired by the life events of Stevi's real grandmother, Mary Therese Kupczak as she enters the workforce for the first time after she and her three children are deserted by her husband. Set in 1960, with elements of magical realism, our screenplay captures feminine rage and the specific strength it takes for a mother to stay composed for the sake of her children. We began writing together via Zoom in 2024. We never planned to be a team, but locked in our respective houses, wondering if the world was ending, we found that spending time playing with fictional characters became a saving grace for our creative spirits. With a 10-year age gap, we found that our different perspectives made storytelling together extra special. After finishing our first feature screenplay together, we knew we were not ready for their collaboration to end. It was around this time that Stevi's grandmother turned 90 and her memory quickly started to slip away. Knowing she wanted to create a film to capture the memory of her Nan, Stevi called her grandmother and asked her to tell her story. She didn’t hesitate and the story began. This story is inspired by Stevi's grandmother, but it is also inspired by every woman walking this earth today. We all have a little bit of Nan inside of us. With the help of local filmmakers, we were able to create a first look into the world of Nan with almost no budget. Now, we need your help! We want to make this full short film a reality, specifically a reality where we can pay our actors and crew, and create the sets to bring the world of 1960 to life. With the current state of the film industry, now is a perfect time to be a supporter of local filmmaking. Our short will be entirely filmed in Bloomington, Illinois and all costumes, props, and set pieces are from local businesses. Nan is an important story, and it’s one we feel especially lucky to have been called to tell. Nan is an ode to the silent mothers of the 20th century written by their 21st-century loud-mouthed daughters. Help us make this film a reality.
