Hi, my name is Janet Siemonsma and I'm trying to help facilitate this for Nancy's family. From Nancy's sister, Jane: This is my sister, Nancy. We found her in her bed with her therapy dog at her feet. She spent her life as a dedicated nurse, most recently caring for elderly patients that felt like family to her and any stray dog or cat that needed rescuing. About 25 years ago she tried to catch a patient that was falling and she was injured. She had multiple surgeries over the years to try and “fix” the damage from the injury but they all seemed like temporary fixes at best. She was fiercely independent but dealing with her physical pain was tough and it limited what she was able to do in the field of nursing. She never married and had no children of her own but she was proud of her nieces and nephews. Her social interactions were limited due to the pain she was managing. Often she felt lonely, misunderstood and wished she had just a little bit more understanding and help from friends and family for what she was going through. But, she never gave up and continued to help others and do what she could as a nurse. In these last few years she nurtured and strengthened her Catholic faith. She found solace in her local church. Any money she had left after paying her monthly bills she gave to charity. Nancy had no plan for a rainy day or in this case, her death. She felt God would take care of her. Her family needs to clear out her apartment and close out her affairs. We want to give her a final goodbye and have a funeral service that celebrates her - and all the good she did for her community throughout her life. #dedication #nursing #physicalpain #celebrationoflife #perseverance #painmanagement #family #helper #finalgoodbye
