The Future Museum Summer Arts program supports teens & young adults in learning and sharing visual art skills to express their desires for the future. Through a social justice and Afrofuturist lens, participants will be led through workshops that include zine making, old and new technological approaches, collaborative paintings, and character design. Artists will be encouraged and supported to lead an activity to help develop their leadership skills. A nurturing, experienced staff of working artists in the greater NYC area will provide a community-building and restorative justice approach. The one-week summer program offers a brave space for young artists to process the challenges of our current world while envisioning solutions- artistic and otherwise- that don’t currently exist. We aim to elevate the voices of our participants and equip them with confidence, experience, and tools as young artists learn to navigate art spaces. On Friday, August 18th, the public will be invited to an exhibition of our vision for the future at the Brooklyn Free School located in Restoration Plaza in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. Our program services many families that come from underrepresented and systemically targeted identities. We rely largely on fundraising efforts to ensure programming can happen. Your contribution goes toward: -Access to art spaces for underserved & BIPOC young artists in Brooklyn -No-cost spots for those that require financial assistance. -Staff salaries -Art supplies -Space Rental at Brooklyn Free School Every donation goes a long way. Thank you for helping to make quality, progressive arts education accessible! For more programming info, please visit: Future Museum info and registration
