We are devastated to share the heartbreaking story of Elias Gillies Chance. Elias was born prematurely on Thanksgiving Day last year, November 24, 2024. His addition to the family gave everyone something to be truly grateful for. Early Thanksgiving morning, Chris (Grandma) received a text message with an image of the tiny 4-pound, 2-ounce baby Elias that said, 'Gobble Gobble,' which was the first announcement of his birth. Tragically, our beloved Elias was taken from us far too soon at the heart-wrenching age of 7 and a half months. As we mourn the loss of our precious baby boy, we are faced with the overwhelming challenge of arranging his final resting place. We humbly reach out to our community, seeking your support to ensure that Elias receives the dignified farewell he deserves. Elias's Story was a story of conquering until he couldn't conquer anymore. He was born well before his February due date, and needed additional help growing before he could really enter the world. With two caring parents, and the help of Cooks Children’s Hospital, Baby Elias, known affectionately as “Bug” to his five older siblings ages 3 - 12, flexed his muscles and conquered what he needed to conquer so that he could finally go home in February of 2024. Elias quickly learned the ins and outs of being the “baby” in his family. All of his siblings simply adored him. He loved to cuddle his mom and snuggle up with his dad. He even started learning all of the skills a baby learns such as giggling, grabbing his feet, and rolling over. He loved life, his family, and had a bright future full of memories in front of him. Then, a nightmare, a dark cloud of hopelessness came on the evening of Friday, July 7, 2024. All the hope and expectations of a bright future turned dim and black as tragedy flooded in. Elias suddenly stopped breathing from something called Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). His breath of life was gone. As we move through this profound grief, we are faced with the daunting task of covering the expenses associated with Elias's final arrangements. The financial burden of a funeral and memorial service is overwhelming, especially as we cope with the unexpected loss of our beloved baby boy. Your generous contributions will help alleviate this strain and allow us to give Elias the farewell he deserves, honoring his memory and celebrating the joy he brought into our lives. All donations are collected by Scott Stevens and given directly to the Chance Family.
