Our son Lesili Bertelsen a.k.a. “Sili “ just qualified for US National Team trials by finishing second place at the 2024 AAU Taekwondo Nationals. Sili dominated his way into finals where he lost an extremely close match--Sili has an exceptional chance of becoming a 2024 AAU National Team member, which will allow him to get sponsored by AAU and represent USA (and of course MAUI!!) in the International Olympic qualifiers. Both Sili and his coach need travel expenses as all funds were depleted getting them to Nationals in Florida last week. Team trials is July 31st in Des Moines, Iowa. Our goal is to raise $5,000. With your help we will make Maui and the State of Hawaii proud and continue our quest to become the first Taekwondo Olympians in Hawaii. Sili has been training consistently with Kiffmann’s Maui Elite Taekwondo for about 7 years, always giving his best and persevering after some tough losses due to him being underweight (bottom of the weight bracket) when he was younger. Sili trains 5/6 days a week and also assists in earlier classes helping the lower belts and young children at the dojang, while attending Kamehameha Schools Maui, and is an honor student.
