Garren and I leave in 1 week for Madrid. Our family has had some unexpected expenses that has left short for the money we were planning to use while we are in Madrid. We appreciate the help we have been given, but if you would like to help sponsor him, we would be happy to pay you back by working off anything you can donate, when we return! Thank you in advance! Garren started playing soccer at 4 years old in Rec leagues every spring and fall. In his first year playing on the middle school team, he was one of the few 6th graders chosen to play on the A team and started almost every game. In his 8th grade year he was chosen as a captain for his team. The transition last year to High School Soccer was tough, especially because he didn't make the Varsity team in his Freshman year. This along with a challenging Rec season in the spring has motivated him to kick up his training this summer. He spends at least 5 days per week at the gym, is running or biking daily and practices with his friends whenever possible. He has begun reffing games and working with the younger kids to develop their skills and love for the sport...including his 4 year old sister! The hours upon hours of soccer games, scoring and keeper montages he and his father have watched on YouTube as training videos or for inspiration before a game is countless! His room is decorated in Real Madrid signs, posters and his prize possession, his flag that he found at a garage sale the weekend before his camp started. In mid-June he attended a Real Madrid week-long camp at Grand Park where he got to work with coaching and training staff from the Real Madrid team in Spain. At the end of the camp he received an email congratulating him for being one of 2 players out of the entire camp to be chosen to attend an additional training clinic in Madrid, Spain in May 2024! To say this is a dream come true would be an understatement! He is so incredibly excited and we are so incredibly proud of him for achieving this goal! As you can imagine, this dream come true comes with a hefty price tag. He is required to have an adult travel with him, but we have decided to try and take our family of 4 on this once in a lifetime opportunity. Garren is working hard to cover his expense for the camp of $2500. He has already put $1000 towards his portion from reffing and working at his friends family greenhouse. He will continue to work to raise the additional funds to cover as much as possible. We are asking for assistance with the cost of airfare. Our estimated flight cost for the family to travel round trip to Spain is approximately $9000. Obviously we will look for ways to cut these costs, but that is the price I found when doing a general search. We are working hard as a family to raise as much of the costs as possible, but have had several family and friends offer to donate to Garren's goal. We appreciate everyone's willingness to help him achieve this dream! Please consider donating or sharing his story. God Bless and Thank you in advance for your time. ❤️ from a soccer mom and Garren's #1 fan, Amy Stokes
