Most of you know that Martin and I met while helping start a secondary school in Uganda that aimed to provide quality education to children in vulnerable families. We got to witness first hand how education led to changed communities! We love to share our experiences and talk about the importance of education all over the world. Educating a child benefited numerous people in the child’s village! A few weeks ago, we learned about a need in Uganda. Our friend and one of Martin’s cousins, Deo, was accepted into Makerere University which is one of the best colleges in Uganda. He has been so excited and asking Martin for lots of advice on how to succeed. Deo plans to get his Bachelors of Commerce degree which allows him to work in finance or accounting in the future. Deo found out a few weeks ago that he did not receive the government scholarship he needed to attend Makerere this upcoming year. His mother is a single mom and has been working so hard to try to find a way to help her son attend college, but at this point he will not have the money he needs. He and his mother are discouraged to say the least. We really want Deo to be able to start college in August, so we are hoping to raise money for at least his first year! Deo will need $3200 US dollars to attend school this upcoming year. This amount will include tuition, books, room and board, and help him purchase a computer! The future years will be around $2000 to $2500 depending on tuition increases and the exchange rate. His undergraduate program is 3 years long. After lots of thought and discussion about how we can help meet this need, we have decided to start a Go Fund Me to help Deo raise the money he needs for college. While we never want to make anyone feel pressured or obligated to donate, we realize that there may be people out there who want to joyfully help provide Deo with a college education. Deo does not know we are raising funds for him! We really hope and believe that we can surprise him soon and tell him he’s going to college and his first year is covered! He needs to pay tuition and room and board by August 15th! Thank you so much for considering!
