Hi, my name is Falak and I am fundraising for Rocky. Rocky is a stray cat that visited my garden for the past couple of months. I was feeding my own cats food, and he would always eat their food so I slowly build up a safety bond with him as the state of him indicated that he didn’t have a forever home. Hence, I bought him a separate bowl to eat from as he was clearly starving, he was very malnourished and fragile and looks like a older cat. Due to him continuously coming into our garden and not leaving and wondering around my own cats, I was hesitant on fleas being spread, and then gave him a flea treatment but by looking at the severity of his condition, I wasn’t quite sure it did justice as he needs a flea bath and I am not equipped to do so myself. In the past couple of weeks the weather has not been the greatest and Rocky visited our garden, soaked and with stones stuck in his coat on the side of the leg area and had a strong, lingering smell from him - hence my dad and I brought him inside and gave him a bath to clean the stones off him as much as we could. Our hearts couldn’t take leaving him outside in that condition. He was very friendly, didn’t scratch or bite and was not showing aggressive behaviour at all. This made me think maybe he has an owner and has been lost. I previously rescued a cat back in April and have two other cats of my own. I was not quite sure what to do in this situation and found a local page on Facebook which led me to a kind lady to visit our home and to check if he was microchipped and sadly he was not. And she mentioned looking at his condition he has been on the streets for years. We tried ringing shelters and putting his pictures up on Facebook pages to see if anyone would Foster him or take him in. Unfortunately, there was no answer, and I decided that I couldn’t leave him living like this and rescued him myself. I am a student and barely making ends meet, but I could not have let him just go back on the streets. I got into contact with my Groomer to which she responded, I should get a health check with the vet to make sure he’s healthy and especially as he’s been living rough- an health check is a requirement of my groomers terms and conditions to screen for any common health conditions, for example, diabetes or heart disease. My dad booked rocky at a vets appointment and registered him under our household. We had visited the vets to which they have suspected he is around 15 years old and due to the vast amount of fleas he has to be put under sedation to require flea bath. The vets stated he has yellowing on the skin and eyes which may be liver disease or anaemia. The vet’s recommended a blood panel which will cost up to £200 and the vets also recommended to take Rocky to a clinic so tests can be taken to get an accurate answer on why Rocky has yellowing on the skin and eyes the clinic itself will cost £1500 which is way out my budget as I am a student and struggled to pay for his vet check up bill. Please can you help give Rocky a second chance and help save his life !
